Mommy grocery getter/kid hauler complete. I am a little jealous, but I get to ride with my daughter instead.
I love gardening. These are radishes of a French variety. They taste like your everyday radish, but with less bite/spice.
“Here’s to the Crazy Ones. The misfits. The rebels. The trouble-makers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules, and they have no respect for the status-quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify, or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world - are the ones who DO!”

I have the mind of Calvin. Look up once in a while.
Every evil genius needs a desk and chair. I put my new desk in place.
We picked up the desktop at the habitat for humanity re-store in Beaverton with some wall shelving. Total cost $11. Win!
You may notice the art on the walls courtesy of my daughter. We gave her the go ahead to draw on the walls when we finally moved into a home instead of an apartment. We kept it up as it is pretty fun to look at.
Step #432 of the bedroom rebuild. Remove 70’s wood paneling and put up Sheetrock.
Vacuum up 40 years of spider webs. Thankfully no spiders were there to greet me.
Gardening today. Part 2.
I finished the U-garden dig and was able to get the sod flipped. I have compost, but didn’t have a chance to mix it in. We had a foot injury to deal with. [She’s ok]
As we keep experimenting with things that grow in your front yard I drew up the full plan. We are tearing up more sod and putting in more little garden beds. One of the books that inspired this monkey business is Four-Season Harvest: Organic Vegetables from Your Home Garden All Year Long by Eliot Coleman It can be picked up at Powell’s or Amazon. The idea for the front yard is “less mowing, more eating”. I am hoping this season turns out better than last year.
Gardening today. Part 1.
After a stop at the Portland Nursery we got the 4x4 box prep’d and ready. We also started digging the horseshoe garden.
Our experiment in becoming farmers is moving forward.
Open Source Ecology. Living practicing post-scarcity.
I have been following these guys since I first saw the TED talk and I LOVE the idea. For more please check out their blog. I am excited to see the final product.
Also, they dump the XML of the Wiki everyday. Click here to download it. It is a MediaWiki site so if you know how to set one up you also can have the wiki.
Listening to U2’s Joshua Tree today on a whim.
I would say that this CD has been the most influential piece of music over my whole life. Inspiring every travel and adventure. So many memories, good and bad, wrapped into every lyric. It has accentuated great moments and brought me through low points.
If I ever get to meet the guys from U2, I will thank them for this.
I made a mess of our room.
The easiest part is the demo, now to rebuild. The water heater will get walled in and once the mold killer is dry I will put up some more drywall to cover. Then I will build a nice closet.
After the closet is built the room will get fresh paint of my wife’s choosing and carpeting. I still need to figure out what lighting to put in as the ceiling is pretty shallow between my office upstairs and this room. But that will have to wait till later.
This was a garage at one time. Neat eh?
Four days of growth on the winter garden. Wow!
You never regret going for a ride
These are the thoughts I had while driving to Forest Park tonight. In the front of my mind were all the duties and responsibilities of 21st century dad-dom. The kids, the wife, the job, and the need for something more. This was all tugging at me saying Jeremy go back, be with your family, it’s bed time for the kids, you need to maintain the schedule, is this job going to work, and how do I plant bamboo? Meanwhile in the back of my monkey brain is something telling me to ride. It was saying just get there, and the bike will do the rest.
You never regret going for a ride.
The ride itself isn’t important, it’s the need to get away and take a break which is. As soon as the car parked, I stepped out and breathed the rainforest damp loamy air the problems and thoughts disappeared and one true focus entered.
The bike needs an engine and you are it.
go.
I hope you ride this week and forget what you are worrying about, because in five years it won’t matter anyway.
Have fun,
Jeremy
