my wettest/coldest ride was in Colorado.
I was trying out my newest bike at the time the Felt Breed. I wanted to touch the foothills, but only ride dirt to get there. I lived in Superior at the time which is just outside of Boulder and rode west on the dirt trails near town. They eventually link up to other trails and could get me pretty close. So I am out in the middle of cow country and I see this typical summer afternoon thunderstorm rolling in. I figured I’d be able to continue on as it looked like it was moving North of me. I was wrong it was coming towards me. Luckily, I was in a patch of sparse evergreens at the moment and was able to shelter for a little bit under a small pine tree. There I was waiting to be hit by lightning or a monster hail.
The rain and hail kept coming and coming. I was going to wait it out, but it kept on going which was odd for Colorado. So another foolish mistake, I decided to backtrack and get home. So the storm must have been traveling at the same speed as me and the rain/hail kept pounding and pounding me. The trail filled with water and it was like riding in a stream. I thought “god these brakes suck”
I got back to one of the trailheads and was able to find shelter in a public trail bathroom. At that point I excepted my fate and just waited it out in the stinkroom. The storm ended and I had to ride home soaked and cold. BUT I rode home with a smile on my face as that was a pretty darn cool little adventure.
Here is a picture of me after. The light was flat so I threw a sepia tone on it to bring out the contrasts so you could see me.

Seriously thinking about getting a Titus Rockstar 29er for next year’s XC endurance races I will be doing for ZenDoughnut.
One of the big bonus points for this bike is the front triangle is made here in Portland. Check out Titus’ site for more info.
not a fan of run intervals….I like bike intervals better.

Around the World in 80 Faiths
We’ve been watching the documentary Around the World in 80 Faiths over the last week. Really enjoyed it, bravo BBC
I had a dream last night about a egg community that battles it out in the fridge. So I drew it out a bit. Here is the king of the eggs.
Funny stuff.
We Are the 99 Percent
Read this blog or just skim through it. These are your countrymen. These are your people. These people are your brothers, sisters, parents, friends and family.
I feel fortunate and thankful for our position right now, but still anger as I realize that it could all be gone in a moment. And for what? So some corporation can hold more 1’s and 0’s in a computer account?
There are no guarantees in life as they say, but we as a species should look out for each other. I don’t care if you are red, white, brown, black, or blue you are still human and every human deserves the basics.
We deserve better.
Since your vote for change in 2008 proved useless. What do you do now?
What am I going to do about it? I am learning to grow food year round in my plot of land. I know once I figure it out, I know I will have extra. That extra will go to those in need. Imagine if we all did a little something like that? It doesn’t have to be big.
“Give and you receive” They say. I don’t really care about that, I just think it is the right thing to do.
Just some random thoughts…
You never regret going for a ride
These are the thoughts I had while driving to Forest Park tonight. In the front of my mind were all the duties and responsibilities of 21st century dad-dom. The kids, the wife, the job, and the need for something more. This was all tugging at me saying Jeremy go back, be with your family, it’s bed time for the kids, you need to maintain the schedule, is this job going to work, and how do I plant bamboo? Meanwhile in the back of my monkey brain is something telling me to ride. It was saying just get there, and the bike will do the rest.
You never regret going for a ride.
The ride itself isn’t important, it’s the need to get away and take a break which is. As soon as the car parked, I stepped out and breathed the rainforest damp loamy air the problems and thoughts disappeared and one true focus entered.
The bike needs an engine and you are it.
go.
I hope you ride this week and forget what you are worrying about, because in five years it won’t matter anyway.
Have fun,
Jeremy
I was running through the Nike campus today and thinking:
“Man, I wouldn’t mind working here if they made shoes in the USA”.
I mean if Keen and New Balance can make shoes here. Why can’t Nike?
They don’t even have to make all their shoes here, just throw us a bone. I guess I should just feel blessed just having the Headquarters here and all the riff-raff managers, executives, and what-not is enough.
Ref: Keen, New Balance,
[side note: Beaverton tried to annex the Nike campus a while back because, well it is in Beverton, and Nike faught pretty hard to remain in Washington County even though the city has now grown up on all sides. Hillsboro (another close city) also tried I guess and lost too. Nike’s threat as I understand the situation is that they will leave Oregon(?) if they get annexed and have to pay more in city taxes.]
A Girl and Her Bike(s): 10 Things I've Learned by Working in the Bike Industry
I’ve been in the fitness/outdoor/cycling industry for about 5 years now. The last 3 years have been spent in the cycling industry. I learn so much about myself every day in this world, and so much of what I learn could be applied to every aspect of life, not just cycling. So this morning I…
This is a good set of 10 things to remember, but I think you coud take it further and say it to other industries as well. Thanks for sharing.
